Your Questions Answered: Children’s Hypnosis Sessions

As a parent, you naturally have questions about your child’s hypnosis sessions. Here are the most common concerns addressed by our clinical hypnotherapists, Paul and Rebecca Smith.

About the Sessions

Q: Is it safe for my child to fall asleep during the session? A: Absolutely. It’s completely normal and safe for children to fall asleep while listening. Their subconscious mind continues to absorb the positive suggestions even while they sleep. Many parents find this actually works better as children are naturally more relaxed.

Q: What if my child doesn’t remember anything from the session? A: This is perfectly normal and doesn’t affect the session’s effectiveness. Hypnosis works primarily with the subconscious mind, so conscious memory of the session isn’t necessary for it to work.

Q: How long should my child continue listening to the sessions? A: We recommend listening for several weeks consistently. Most children benefit from 3-6 weeks of regular listening, though some may need longer depending on the issue being addressed.

Using the Two-Part System

Q: What happens if we accidentally skip a night between Part One and Part Two? A: Don’t worry - simply continue with Part Two the following night. The sessions are designed to be flexible, and missing a night won’t impact their effectiveness.

Q: Can my child listen to both parts on the same night? A: We recommend sticking to one part per night as designed. This allows time for the subconscious mind to process the content and prevents overwhelming your child.

Q: After the first two nights, which part should they listen to? A: Your child can choose, or you can alternate between parts. Some children develop a preference for one part over the other, which is perfectly fine.

Practical Concerns

Q: What if my child wants to talk during the session? A: Gently remind them that it’s quiet listening time. If they continue to be chatty, they may not be tired enough. Try starting the session 15-30 minutes later.

Q: Can siblings share sessions or listen together? A: Each session is personalised for the individual child based on their specific intake information. Siblings should have their own personalised sessions for best results.

Q: What if my child is scared or anxious about hypnosis? A: Reassure them that it’s simply a relaxing story designed to help them feel better. You might describe it as “special quiet time” or “helpful stories.” Staying nearby initially can provide comfort.

Effectiveness and Results

Q: When will I see changes in my child’s behaviour? A: Some children show subtle changes within the first week, while others may take several weeks. Look for gradual improvements rather than dramatic overnight changes.

Q: What if the sessions don’t seem to be working? A: Hypnosis works differently for each child. Ensure you’re maintaining consistency with the listening routine and environment. If you have ongoing concerns, contact our clinic for guidance.

Q: Can my child listen to the sessions during the day? A: While bedtime is optimal, quiet daytime listening is acceptable if your child won’t be interrupted or distracted. The key is ensuring they can focus entirely on the session.

Technical Questions

Q: What’s the best volume level for the sessions? A: The volume should be comfortable - loud enough for clear hearing but not so loud it’s startling. Test with your child before starting the session.

Q: Can we use these sessions while travelling? A: Yes, as long as you can maintain a quiet, safe environment. Consistency is more important than location.

Remember, our clinical hypnotherapists Paul and Rebecca Smith have designed these sessions based on years of experience working with children. Trust the process and maintain consistency for the best results.
